For example, if we receive an embryo either by flush or by shipment, there is a $400.00 charge to transfer the embryo to the recipient mare. The recipient will be checked at 11-13 days for pregnancy depending on the size of the embryo transferred. The mare will be checked again at about 16 days to confirm growth. Ultrasound exams are then performed weekly at intervals when progesterone is due, at the cost of $20.00 per ultrasound. If she becomes pregnant, the board fee is charged from the day of the transfer at the cost of $10.00 per day (community board). All recipient mares are kept on supplemental progesterone at the cost of $40.00 per week. Total as follows for a 30 day pregnancy: $400.00 transfer + $230 (community board $10 x 23 days) + $120 progesterone ($40 x 3) + $75 palpations ($15 x 5) = $825.00 for veterinary services. The recipient will cost $1,200 - $1,500 for her use depending on insurance options.
If the mare is boarded at our facility, the rates are as above. Typically, we will palpate a mare 3-5 times in preparation for insemination. They will also receive deslorelin to insure ovulation. She is palpated to confirm ovulation and the uterus is infused if there is fluid present. She will be examined with ultrasound and treated daily until fluid is resolved.
Shipped embryos need to be accompanied by check or credit card.
